Color Day: We All Scream for Ice Cream

These hot days of August have got us on a mint green kick, thinking cool thoughts.  The fresh minty color cools us to the core, just like a few scoops of chocolate chip mint ice cream, one of our favorite summer treats.  Although it sometimes comes au natural in the form of a creamy white ice cream, we grew up on the artificial, yet pretty, bluish green shade speckled with rich chocolate chips.  Whether for the palate, or the palette, mint chocolate chip is certainly an appealing and refreshing choice for summer, fall, or really (who are we kidding?) anytime.

Color Day Themes: The Great Gatsby

Today, we pay tribute to the 1920's with an inspiration board perfect for all you Gatsby lovers. The Great Gatsby has been one of our favorite books for years and, with the new Baz Luhrmann movie (with an all-star cast!) rumored to begin shooting this September, we can bet we'll see a resurgence of 1920's fashion and style in the upcoming year. So, break out the art deco, pearls, feathers, drop waist gowns and cloche hats and create an extravagant and lavish look that would be sure to please even Gatsby himself.

Color Day: Honeysuckle Pink and Pretty

Pantone fans fear not, there is still plenty of time to enjoy the Color of the Year - "Honeysuckle Pink".  Honeysuckle, a reddish pink hue (sometimes referred to as "hot pink", although we disagree with that classification), is a modern (and super feminine) choice for your upcoming event or for updating your wardrobe.

Color Day Themes: Bicycle Built for Two

They say the couple that plays together stays together.  People must be catching on to this secret, as totally adorable tandem bicycles have been popping up all over. The image of the tandem bicycle is one that we associate with happy couples that work as a team, riding in unison, and who genuinely enjoy having fun together.  If life is a journey or an adventure, we say grab hold of the handle bars and enjoy the ride...on your bicycle built for two.

Color Day Themes: Queen Bee

Here's a quirky little inspiration board for you based on one of nature's most misunderstood creatures, the honey bee. Bees are industrious, work together in harmonious unison, and if we look back to ancient times in Egypt, the symbol of the bee was used to represent royalty. In terms of colors, black and yellow are always what come to mind when we think of these insects. But, your event or decor can certainly be the bees knees without totally going overboard with the color, just stick with a more saturated hue like a mustard or golden honey and stay away from the bright crayon kind of yellow you might be used to.  Decorate with gold and black accents, add honey comb patterns to your stationary or decor, give away natural local honey, and whip you hair into a high and mighty beehive and you'll have an event that is truly buzz-worthy.

Color Day Themes: Reduce, Reuse, Recycle.

Today's board is all about Earth Day. True, looking at these images you'll notice there is no color theme here. It's not because we don't love green (green is our favorite color!) but because you can really create an eco-friendly wedding with any color, so, why limit ourselves?  Go green and purple and white and pink and any color you want so long as you do so with a conscience.  Take a look at some ideas below - from seed packets made out of used toilet paper rolls to paper poms made out of old damaged books - there are easy ways to create a big impact with a small carbon footprint.

Color Day: Passion for Pastels

This time of year is one that inspires so many different color combinations.  For many people, springtime inspires us to decorate and dress in pale, soft colors like green, pink, blue, or yellow.  Or, if you'd like, you can combine them all together for a pastel palette suitable enough for the easter bunny himself. While these colors have come to represent Easter, we're not saying you need to go full on bunny and rainbow colored crazy.  Just adding some pretty vintage looking pastels and an egg/bird decorative item here and there can be quite cheerful and truly egg-cellent.

Color Day Themes: Butterfly Garden

Springtime brings flowers and flowers require pollination so..bring on the butterflies!  Butterflies are delicate, beautiful, perfect for a whimsical springtime garden wedding. Sure having butterflies adorn your cake and tables is making a truly feminine statement, one that your guy might not be too keen on, but we say go for it anyway and celebrate your inner girly girl!  Go colorful and bright or light and muted, either way your sure to create a carefree and romantic look.

Color Day: Erin go Bragh

Roughly translated as "Ireland Forever", the phrase "Erin go Bragh" is a common phrase used to express allegiance to Ireland.  Saira is definitely not Irish and Jen is not quite sure what she is, but lucky for us, in the U.S. you don't need to be Irish to celebrate St. Patrick's Day. St. Patty's Day is known for many things from leprechauns and rainbows to drinking Guinness and eating cabbage.  But, for most of us it is simply associated with the color green and the lush rolling hills of the "Emerald Isle:". Planning a springtime wedding or event?  Embrace the luck of the Irish with this inspiration board featuring shades of green and joyful clovers.

Color Day Themes: New Orleans Love

So, we're a little late, but we figured a Mardi Gras theme would be appropriate for this week's color day.  The festivities may have ended with the start of the Lenten season today, but that doesn't meant that you can't incorporate a similar theme into your party or event any time this year.  Carnival or Mardi Gras themes are festive and fun so break out the beads, put on your mask, crank up that jazz and bring and little of "The Big Easy" to your event.

Color Day Themes: Cheerful Cherry Blossoms

As each day seems to get warmer, and we start to come out of hibernation, we'll soon be greeted by a springtime favorite, the cherry blossom. Although we're sad to see winter coming to its end, its very ending is kind of beautiful in a "mono no aware" kind of way; a concept that is embodied in the fleeting beauty of the cherry blossom. Celebrated by festivals and cherished for centuries as an emblem of love and affection, cherry blossom trees (also known as Sakura) have always been the perfect spot for meeting (at least in Japan anyway) - with friends and lovers celebrating, picnicking, and enjoying a few drinks underneath the lush blooms.  They are also symbols of good fortune and so you can see why we think this is a brilliant theme for decor in the home or for your special event.
